Rita T. Czyzewski

SOUTH BEND - Rita T. Czyzewski, 88, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN. She was a resident at Golden Living Center - Fountainview Place in Mishawaka, IN.
Rita was born on June 11, 1927 in South Bend, IN, to Stanley and Albina (Kruszynski) Radecki, who both preceded her in death. Rita was a lifelong area resident.
As Rita T. Radecki, she married Clem M. Czyzewski on September 28, 1946, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. They were married for 65 years when he died in 2012.
Survivors include a son, Greg A. Czyzewski of Mishawaka, IN; a sister, Helen (Velmer) Potthast of Mishawaka, IN; two sisters-in-law, Lucille (Anthony) Radecki and Shirley (Thomas) Radecki, both of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss their dear “Aunt Rita.”
Brothers, Anthony “Tony” and Thomas Radecki; and sisters, Harriet Radecki, Dorothy (Joseph) Wilczewski, Cecilia (Leo) Wasowski and Clara (Floyd) Galvas, all preceded her in death.
Rita attended South Bend Central Catholic High School, where she was a baton twirler and performed in school plays. After high school, she worked at the South Bend Wholesale Drug Company and Ball Bands.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Rita will be remembered as a sweet, kind person with a wonderful sense of humor and a hug for everyone. Her passion was music, especially opera. She was gifted with a wonderful mezzo-soprano voice and was a fan of such operas as Carmen and IL Trovatore. She sang at the City Cemetery on Memorial Day as a youth and in church and at weddings as an adult, often in duets with her husband. Her voice entertained and inspired many, especially the younger members of the family, many of whom are musicians and singers.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2016, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
